Department Description
This department is managed by the Health and Safety officer who oversees the occupational safety and health services necessary for all employees of PDRC by complying with the OSH Act of Trinidad and Tobago. The HSE Department conducts training, emergency drills, risk assessments, site visits, investigations on accidents and incidents as well as provide sensitization, preventative and corrective measures when necessary.
Roles and responsibilities
- Conduct health, safety and environmental inspection on projects undertaken by the Penal/Debe Regional Corporation (PDRC), contractors and sub-contractors to ensure compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OSHA).
- Assist in the coordination of the line division and inter-agency health and safety issues programmes and projects.
- Address and complies information for the completion of risk assessments, job hazard analysis.
- Evaluate method statements, risk assessments and job hazard analysis submitted by contractors.
- Development and implementation of a health and safety management systems specific to the needs of the Penal/Debe Regional Corporation.
- Conduct fire briefing at events of the Penal/Debe Regional Corporation.
- Establishment of a health and safety department-supervises staff assigned to the health and safety unit, train staff in order to enable them to assist in inspections and other duties.
- Investigates accidents and incidents- prepare reports and preventative measures.
- Established the occupational health and safety committee and conducts monthly meeting with staff and heads of department.
