2025 Flood Mitigation Exercise

On June 3, 2025, the Honorable Khadijah Ameen, Minister of Rural Development and Local Government, visited the Penal/Debe Regional Corporation as part of her proactive approach to disaster preparedness under the 2025 Flood Mitigation Exercise.

In her address, she outlined that the Ministry had begun three weeks of intensive work under this initiative. This program utilizes a multi-ministry approach, pooling resources to address flooding issues nationwide.

She encouraged the Council and essential personnel to continue reporting issues to the Ministry and emphasized the importance of acting swiftly to find solutions.

During her working session with members of Council and key personnel, the Minister focused on reviewing current resources to enhance efforts against flooding.

She outlined future projects, including clearing watercourses, strengthening riverbanks, and implementing other flood control measures aimed at reducing the cost and severity of damage to homes, businesses, and farms within the municipality.

The Penal/Debe Regional Corporation, in collaboration with the Ministry of Rural Development and Local Government, is fully committed to improving the lives of all burgesses. By exercising political will, we aim to directly address flooding issues and foster regional development throughout the municipality.
